7th Sky Entertainment s current shows rule the week

The Fantasists – Pakistan’s First Illusions Mentalism Show

Pakistan’s first ever illusion show The Fantasists is all set to take place in Karachi at the Arts Council from 17th up till 28th January’18. The show, which is being organized by LUSH Productions, will feature internationally acclaimed mentalist Afzaal Afridi and illusionist Munawar Khan.

The show is being directed by Usama Qazi, CEO LUSH Productions, who is a well-known name in the theatre industry. The Fantasists marks his theatre comeback after a gap of five years. Speaking about the idea behind this production and why he chose The Fantasists as his comeback project, Usama states:

“My comeback was actually a musical, but the concept behind ‘The Fantasists’ turned out to so exciting and challenging that I chose this as my comeback as nothing of the sort has ever been done before in Pakistan. For long I have dreamt of staging an illusions & mentalism show in Pakistan, one that draws inspiration from similar shows done internationally, and finally I am staging one. Our audience is in for a surprise of a lifetime. 90 minutes of mind-boggling wizardry, wit & wonder.”

The costumes for the show have been designed by Breakhna & Zarmeena and the set designing has been done by Mustafa Rizvi. First Pakistan International Film Festival

Karachi Film Society hosted a press conference in the metropolitan city to announce the first Pakistan International Film Festival, scheduled from March 29th, 2018 to April 1st 2018.

PIFF is an initiative of Karachi Film Society, a non-profit parent body of PIFF established by the most accomplished people in their respective fields; Dr Ishrat Husain (former Governor State Bank of Pakistan), Ms Ameena Saiyid (CEO OUP), Senator (r) Javed Jabbar (writer/producer, former Information Minister), Mr Sirajuddin Aziz (CEO Habib Metropolitan Bank), Mr Jamil Baig (CEO Nueplex Cinemas), Ms Ronak Lakhani (Chairperson SOP), Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Oscar winning director/producer), Ms. Sayeeda Leghari (Managing Director/Chairperson, Pepsi Sukkur Beverages (Pvt Ltd.) and Ms Sultana Siddiqui (recipient of President’s Pride of Performance Award, founder and president of HUM Network Ltd and Karachi Film Society).

The press conference was attended by prominent personalities of Pakistan entertainment industry including Nadeem Baig, Wajahat Rauf, Ayesha Omer, Sanam Saeed, Yasir Nawaz and Asma Nabeel. Speaking at the press conference, Director General Pakistan National Council of Arts, Mr Jamal Shah appreciated the efforts of Karachi Film Society and stressed on the need of having such platforms for the promotion of Pakistani art and cinema.

The inception of ‘Pakistan International Film Festival’ is a result of KFS’s desire to make the Pakistan film industry part of the global arena.  This festival will introduce the country’s blossoming film industry to international markets and will encourage local filmmakers to showcase their work to the local and international audience. The festival will be held under the patronage of Honorable Governor Sindh, Mohammad Zubair, Honorable Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the support of Sindh Government’s culture department. Karachi Film Society is the proud partner of Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in organizing PIFF through Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage. PIFF activities are also supported by Karachi Youth Initiative (KYI). Hum Network is the media partner of PIFF.

The festival will comprise film premieres and special screenings in the categories of feature length films, documentaries and short films. PIFF management is inviting the overseas delegates of filmmakers, artists and professionals of the film industry from abroad and expects many renowned names to grace the festival.

Another important aspect of this festival will be to hold workshops for young aspiring filmmakers where they can learn the craft from renowned mentors. A special mobile screening programme is also included in which PIFF teams will show selected films to young audiences on different locations of Karachi. The special panel discussions on women’s role in Film/ TV and seminars on the Pakistan film industry will also be an integral part of PIFF.

President Karachi Film Society, Sultana Siddiqui said, “Karachi Film Society is a great initiative by the most committed and accomplished members of our society, and I am very proud to be part of such a dedicated team. This festival will definitely create opportunities for new filmmakers to showcase their work to enthusiastic viewers and professionals across the globe. Faran Tahir’s Character from American Series The Magician’s Upcoming Season Revealed

After the recent announcement of Pakistani-American actor Faran Tahir’s appearance in the upcoming season of American fantasy TV series The Magicians, the network Syfy has now released a behind-the-scenes video promo which introduces the look of Faran’s character. Similar to other characters featured on the show, Faran has been styled in a unique manner using special makeup techniques to get the perfect look to fit into the magical genre of the show. The video also reveals the name of Faran’s character, which is The Great Cock of the Darkling Woods.

The character is the brother of Winter’s Doe/The White Lady, who was featured in the second season of the show. The Great Cock is a magical creature who serves as an aid to the High King of Fillory, Eliot Waugh. While the character is primarily menacing, he also has a wicked sense of humor which is why him and Eliot end up connecting with each other.

Television series The Magicians is based on a novel of the same name. The third season of the show will be airing on Syfy from the 10th of January.

Performance line-up for Lahore Music Meet 2018

With this email, we wanted to update that Pakistan’s Leading Comprehensive Music Symposium: The Lahore Music Meet [#LMM18] has officially announced the performance line-up for their fourth edition scheduled to take place at the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore on the 6th and 7th January 2018. The two-day festival is dedicated to bringing together musical minds from across Pakistan for a celebration and critique of music. #LMM18 will be headlined by by leading Indie folk-rock band Sikandar ka Mandar, Balochi folk artist Akhtar Channal on day 1 with Pakistan’s Qawwali maestros Farid Ayaz & Abu Muhammad Qawwals and Indie Band Taka Tak to perform on day-2 as part of the festival’s indoor showcase.

The outdoor showcase will feature a diversity of artists who encapsulate various musical spectrums of Pakistan. These include; Mauj, Roots, Wisdom Salad, Zohaib Bilal, Alien Panda Jury, Sameen Qasim & Co, Sunny Khan Durrani, Bayaan, Sami Amiri, Fazal Jatt, Bushra Marvi, Shorbanoor and Pepsi battle of the bands winner Kashmir. For its fourth iteration, the Lahore Music Meet received over 200 applications from across the country for the live performance sessions which were interesting blend of pop, rock, folk and rap music from around the country.then crafted into a carefully curated list by co-founders Natasha Noorani and Zahra Paracha representing an interesting blend of pop, rock, folk and rap music from around the country.
