RESPONSE FROM PAKISTAN TO THE TALIBAN’S NEW “MORAL CODE”

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan responded to the Afghan Taliban government’s new “moral code” for men and women on Thursday by stating that women have an innate right to education in line with Islamic teachings. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told reporters during her weekly briefing, “Pakistan’s position on the rights of women and girls, especially for their inherent right to education, is clear and consistent,” in response to a question regarding the recent actions taken by the Taliban government.
A new clothing code for men and more limitations for women were recently announced by the Kabul administration. Numerous analysts interpret the action as an effort to bring back the Taliban’s first 1996–2001 reign.
Additionally, it protects their right to a good living free from violence and their voice in public. These rights are granted to women in Pakistan by the Constitution, and we hope that women worldwide will also have access to these rights,” she continued.
There were doubts about whether the Afghan Taliban’s second term would be different from their first when they retook power in August 2021.
Some said that the Taliban would have moderate policies since they had learnt from their mistakes in the past. But following some encouraging signs, the Taliban leadership progressively reinstated the previous directives. The primary obstacle preventing the Taliban from receiving official international recognition is the prohibition on girls attending school and the denial of women’s fundamental rights.
The likelihood of the Taliban being recognised has decreased even more in the wake of the new edict. The spokeswoman for TTP stated that Pakistan has a clear stance on the terrorist organisations operating in Afghanistan.
“We have shown evidence of these terror groups’ activities on multiple occasions. They have safe havens inside Afghanistan, and it is not just Pakistan’s concern that Afghan territory is being used to incite terrorism against its neighbours.” It’s possible that you’ve read recent UN reports that have highlighted the activity of these terrorist organisations within Afghanistan. Therefore, we implore the Afghan government to act against these terrorist organisations and make sure they don’t carry out terror strikes against Pakistan.
