Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister’s special assistant, disclosed on Tuesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has held informal talks regarding proposed constitutional modifications and that the opposition party has expressed agreement on the improvements that these revisions may bring about.
Sanaullah said in a statement, “We have had informal talks with PTI on the matter of proposed constitutional amendments, and they too understand that these changes will lead to improvements.”
He added that by the first week of October, the Senate and National Assembly might have passed the amendments that have already garnered consensus. Ongoing efforts are being made to develop a wider consensus on the remaining suggestions, nevertheless.
“The fact that we don’t yet have a two-thirds majority is not a failure of the government,” he stated. “What we desire is to pass these amendments through consensus, ensuring that all political parties are on board.”
Similar remarks were made by Khawaja Asif, the minister of defence, who said that all political leaders had received a draft of the proposed modifications. While requesting a delay until December, he stated that PTI had no issues to the revisions.
“They said they have no objections, but just asked for the amendments to be postponed until December,” Asif disclosed.
“The process of appointing judges is still in the hands of the judiciary, with chambers having multiple lawyers as judges, some sitting in high courts, and others in the Supreme Court,” he said in criticism of the existing status of judicial appointments. What’s happening in this situation?”
Asif denounced the state of affairs, saying, “This is a mockery of Pakistan’s judiciary.”
The administration is urging a comprehensive deal. Even while the administration is optimistic that the negotiated revisions will be passed by early October, there are still certain issues that need to be resolved, and more talks with the opposition parties are planned.
