Pakistani actress and model Hania Aamir recently uncovered the Indian Instagram account responsible for creating and circulating her inappropriate deepfake videos.
A few deepfake videos surfaced on social media, featuring a girl who bore a strong resemblance to Hania, leading fans to mistakenly believe the videos were of her. These videos were made using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Upon learning of the viral videos, Hania Aamir clarified in an Instagram story that they were fake and not hers. She then tracked down the account behind the videos, sharing a screenshot of an Instagram profile named ‘Anvrit Sandhu,’ which had 22,400 followers and was run by an Indian user.
This account had posted over 100 deepfake videos of Hania Aamir. Addressing her fans, Hania urged them to report the fake account, stating, “This account has blocked me, but can you all please report this fake account?” Following her request, many fans reported the account, prompting the user to change its name first to ‘Core Sandhu’ and then to ‘Sandhu Core’ to avoid being banned.
After being identified by Hania, the user admitted to the account’s activities and subsequently deleted all of Hania’s deepfake videos.
The Instagram account, created in September 2022, had changed its name 18 times over two years and was operated from Chandigarh, India.
