A satirical post falsely attributed to former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss went viral on September 30. The post, created by the X (formerly Twitter) account Politics For You (@PoliticoForYou), claimed that Truss had accused an “underground transgender mafia” of orchestrating her early exit from office. Despite being a satirical take, it attracted over 2.5 million views and ignited widespread conversation online.
BREAKING 🚨🚨🚨
Liz Truss claims “Underground transgender mafia” were plotting against her and brought her leadership to an end.
The viral post emerged shortly after Truss’s appearance at the Tory conference, where she had a conversation with Daily Telegraph columnist Tim Stanley. During the 45-minute interview, she shared her thoughts on the “woke establishment,” criticized the Equality Act and Gender Recognition Act, and suggested that the Conservative Party might have fared better in the general election had she remained in power.
Truss also expressed admiration for right-wing figures, including Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, but did not mention the “underground transgender mafia.” Although the quote was entirely fabricated, many took it at face value, partly due to Truss’s past remarks about “trans activists” within the civil service, whom she had previously blamed for some of her political troubles.
The satirical post quickly turned into a source of online humor, with users engaging in discussions about the fictional “transgender underground mafia.”
