Saba Qamar Joins UNICEF as Pakistan’s First Child Rights Ambassador!
UNICEF has officially named Saba Qamar as Pakistan’s first National Ambassador for Child Rights, marking the announcement on the International Day of the Girl Child—a day spotlighting the unique challenges faced by girls worldwide. Expressing deep gratitude, Saba said, “It’s an honor to join UNICEF. I’m dedicated to our shared mission of securing every child’s rights.” Drawing from her recent experiences across Pakistan, she emphasized her commitment to advocating for children’s well-being and elevating issues like child marriage, educational access, mental health, and gender equality.
As UNICEF’s new ambassador, Saba will work tirelessly to bring attention to critical issues, including child marriage, which affects 19 million girls in Pakistan alone. Shockingly, over half of adolescent girls become mothers before age 18, posing serious risks to their health and futures. UNICEF estimates that without urgent intervention, child marriage will persist for decades in Pakistan.
UNICEF’s Pakistan representative, Mr. Abdullah Fadil, warmly welcomed Saba as a powerful advocate for women’s and girls’ rights. Together, they will work to create a brighter future for Pakistan’s youth and secure essential rights for every child.
