The dazzling 73rd Miss Universe competition in Mexico City crowned its newest queen: Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjær Theilvig. Theilvig, 21, not only secured the prestigious title but also etched her name in history as the first-ever Danish winner of Miss Universe. Her victory breaks a 61-year dry spell since Denmark last reached the top five in the global pageant.
Sheynnis Palacios, Miss Universe 2023 and the first Nicaraguan to claim the crown, ceremoniously passed the title to Theilvig, marking a significant moment for Denmark.
A Night of Groundbreaking Achievements
This year’s competition was nothing short of extraordinary. The first runner-up, Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina, became the first Nigerian contestant to achieve a top-five finish, while Miss Mexico María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa secured the third spot, delighting her home crowd.
Trailblazing contestants included Miss Egypt Logina Salah, the first participant with vitiligo, and Miss Malta Beatrice Njoya, who, at 40 years old, became the oldest competitor in Miss Universe’s history.
Theilvig’s Inspirational Journey
Theilvig captivated judges and audiences not only with her elegance but also with her empowering final-round message. Responding to the question about inspiring women worldwide, she passionately stated:
“No matter where you come from, no matter your past, you can always choose to turn it into your strengths. It will never define who you are. You just gotta keep fighting.”
Theilvig’s heartfelt words, coupled with her radiant confidence, secured her victory.
A Multifaceted Queen
Beyond her pageant achievements, Theilvig is a professional dancer, a beauty entrepreneur, and a mental health and animal rights advocate. Her aspirations extend further as she plans to pursue a legal career, making her a role model for aspiring young women globally.
Miss Universe 2024: A Celebration of Diversity
