In a statement that came after the successful dispersal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters in Islamabad, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended law enforcement agencies for their swift and effective response to the D-Chowk protest. The operation, which took place late into the night, was aimed at clearing the area of protesters who had surged toward the capital’s iconic square, demanding political action.
Minister Naqvi expressed gratitude to law enforcement personnel, stating, “We thank Allah that the subversive conspiracy has failed miserably, and a peaceful Pakistan and its people have emerged victorious.” He specifically praised the bravery and efforts of the Pakistan Army, Rangers, Federal and Provincial Police, and Frontier Constabulary (FC), all of whom played key roles in restoring order.
Government Operation Ends PTI Protest at D-Chowk
The protest, which had escalated at D-Chowk, was brought to an abrupt end after the government launched a comprehensive operation aimed at neutralizing the protesters’ influence in the federal capital. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar confirmed that PTI protesters, including senior leaders, had been successfully dispersed, with many fleeing the capital, including PTI’s prominent figures Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Naqvi went on to visit the affected areas, including Khyber Plaza, where he congratulated law enforcement personnel for their courage and resolute action. He also emphasized the successful efforts in clearing roads and removing obstacles, with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) tasked with cleaning up the areas. Naqvi took stock of the damage caused by the clashes and directed authorities to repair the infrastructure.
PTI Retreats and Cancels Protest
Following the crackdown, PTI announced the cancellation of its ongoing protest. A spokesperson for the party condemned the actions of law enforcement, alleging that peaceful protesters were subjected to excessive force, resulting in numerous injuries. They vowed to decide on their next course of action following a meeting with PTI leadership.
Despite PTI’s claims, the government remains adamant that the protest was subversive and aimed at disrupting the peace. Naqvi confirmed that with the clearance of D-Chowk and surrounding areas, life in Islamabad was expected to return to normal. The law enforcement agencies’ coordinated action marks a significant move in upholding public order in the capital, ensuring that peace prevails.
