In a monumental step towards achieving the Digital Pakistan vision, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja inaugurated Asia’s first Smart Village project in Roras village, Sialkot. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Information Technology, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Huawei, Bedari NGO, and Tele-Education, aims to digitally transform rural and remote areas, uplifting their quality of life through innovative solutions in education, health, and employment.
The Smart Village project reflects the government’s dedication to bridging the digital divide in Pakistan. During the inauguration, Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that young talent in Pakistan possesses immense potential but lacks opportunities for skill development and recognition. This project is set to address these challenges, providing rural youth with the tools they need to succeed.
The Smart Village project is more than just a pilot program—it’s a beacon of hope for rural communities. The state minister also announced plans to roll out similar initiatives across all provinces of Pakistan in the near future.
By empowering rural youth with digital skills and connecting them to the modern world, the government is paving the way for sustainable growth, better livelihoods, and improved living standards.
