Karachi Braces for Extended Cold Wave: Temperatures to Dip Further
Posted on December 18, 2024 by News Desk
Residents of Karachi and rural Sindh, prepare to bundle up! The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts the ongoing cold wave will persist for the next 10 days, bringing even chillier weather to the region.
In Karachi, temperatures are expected to drop to single digits over the next two to three days. The cold spell is also bringing gusty winds, making it feel even colder.
Rural Sindh to Face Unusually Low Temperatures
Rural districts of Sindh, particularly Tharparkar and Umerkot, are experiencing significant temperature drops. The minimum temperature in these areas could be as much as 6°C lower than usual.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz attributed the cold wave to northeastern winds originating from Balochistan. However, relief might be on the way with the potential return of the sea breeze, which could moderate temperatures and reduce the chill.
Karachi Records the Coldest Night of the Season
This week, Karachi experienced its coldest night of the season, with temperatures dipping to 8.9°C at Jinnah Terminal. Other areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Shahrah-e-Faisal, recorded temperatures of 10.5°C and 11.5°C, respectively. Mauripur saw a low of 12.5°C.
While daytime temperatures are expected to climb to around 27°C, the chilly mornings and evenings are a stark reminder of Karachi’s rare cold spells.
