The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially approved an increase in gas prices for the current fiscal year, marking a significant change for households and businesses across Pakistan.
According to OGRA’s latest announcement, gas prices for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) consumers will rise by 8.71% and 25.78%, respectively. This increase reflects a significant adjustment aimed at meeting the country’s growing energy demands.
New Gas Prices at a Glance
- Sui Northern Gas Consumers: The average price has been raised to Rs1,778.35 per MMBTU.
- Sui Southern Gas Consumers: The average price now stands at Rs1,762.51 per MMBTU.
While the price adjustments have been approved by OGRA, the final decision will depend on a summary sent to the federal government for review and approval. Islamabad’s advice will determine the next steps in implementing these rates.
Impact on Households and Businesses
The increase in gas prices could lead to higher utility bills, affecting monthly household budgets and operational costs for industries. Families and businesses are advised to optimize energy consumption to mitigate the financial impact.
