Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Afghan Government Action Against TTP

In a pivotal federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged the Afghan government to take decisive measures against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), emphasizing that cross-border terrorist activities targeting Pakistan are unacceptable and cross a red line for Islamabad. The prime minister underscored the need for the interim Afghan government to formulate a robust strategy to curb TTP’s operations from Afghan soil.
Highlighting the ongoing threat, Shehbaz Sharif said, “Unfortunately, TTP is operating from Afghanistan and carrying out terror attacks and killing innocent people inside Pakistan. This cannot go on. We have conveyed to the Afghan government that we desire good ties with them, but TTP should be stopped from killing our innocent people.” He emphasized that Pakistan seeks friendly relations and cooperation in areas like trade and the economy, but the coexistence of dialogue with allowing TTP’s operations is untenable.
The prime minister commended the efforts of the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) for their role in maintaining peace and security. He noted the successful elimination of several terrorists during operations in Waziristan.
Honoring Shaheed Benazir Bhutto
On the 17th death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the prime minister paid heartfelt tribute to her courage, political acumen, and unwavering commitment to democracy. “Her services and sacrifices for democracy and the country are exemplary and will be remembered forever,” he remarked.
Preparing for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism about the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan in February 2025. He highlighted that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure a successful international sporting event, promising fans a showcase of high-quality cricket.
Combating Human Trafficking
In a separate meeting focused on eradicating human trafficking, the prime minister called for strict punitive measures within a week against those involved in this heinous crime. A report on the tragic boat capsize incident in Greece was also presented during the meeting. Shehbaz Sharif stressed improving the prosecution process and ensuring accountability for government officials who facilitate such crimes.
Addressing Gas Supply Issues
During another review meeting, the prime minister addressed the challenges of gas supply during winter. He directed authorities to resolve consumer complaints and ensure uninterrupted gas supply to domestic users, demonstrating a firm commitment to addressing public grievances.
