The Comeback of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)
After a hiatus of over four years, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has proudly resumed direct flights to Europe, with the first flight touching down at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport on Friday. This significant milestone re-establishes PIA’s presence in the European aviation market, bringing renewed hope and connectivity for travelers.
The inaugural flight departed Islamabad at 12:40 PM, marking it as the only direct route between Pakistan and the European Union. Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif, along with embassy officials and PIA representatives, celebrated this grand occasion at Islamabad International Airport. The festivities included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a cake-cutting event, and warm farewells to the passengers.
A Historic Day for PIA
Minister Khawaja Asif declared the event a “historic day” and a step toward reclaiming PIA’s golden era. He emphasized the national importance of this resumption, which will foster greater people-to-people connections, boost trade, and enhance tourism opportunities between Pakistan and France.
Direct flights between Islamabad and Paris are now scheduled twice weekly, on Fridays and Sundays, creating a convenient travel option for overseas Pakistanis and international visitors.
Reclaiming PIA’s Lost Glory
The resumption follows a challenging period for PIA, including a four-year ban from the European Union due to safety concerns. This landmark achievement demonstrates the efforts of stakeholders and the government to meet global aviation standards. The Aviation Minister expressed optimism that PIA will soon expand its operations to the UK and the US, strengthening Pakistan’s global aviation footprint.
The Prime Minister’s Congratulations
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the achievement, calling it a significant step in rebuilding PIA’s reputation. He acknowledged the hard work of the aviation ministry, PIA staff, and other stakeholders in making this possible.
Future Prospects
PIA’s revival strategy includes exploring new European destinations and expanding operations to meet passenger demand. This initiative not only reconnects Pakistan to Europe but also paves the way for the airline’s broader revival, improving its global standing and economic viability.
As PIA soars back to Europe, the hope remains that it will reclaim its place as a prestigious and reliable national carrier.
