In a thrilling display of skill and precision, Pakistan’s prolific cueist, Mohammad Asif, has clinched victory at the 3rd SAARC Snooker Championship, held at the Moors Sports Club in Colombo. Asif’s outstanding performance has not only earned him the prestigious title but has also made him the second Pakistani to win this championship, following in the footsteps of Asjad Iqbal, who won the inaugural edition in 2019.

Asif, the reigning world champion, was in top form throughout the tournament, demonstrating why he is considered one of the best in the world of snooker. In the final, he outplayed Sri Lanka’s Thaha Irshath, securing a 5-0 victory without dropping a single frame. This impressive win speaks volumes about Asif’s dominance and control over the game.

The final match saw Asif get off to an excellent start, clinching the first frame with ease. Irshath, however, showed his resilience in the second frame, initially dominating the play. But an unfortunate error on the pink allowed Asif to take control and win the second frame 73-46, extending his lead.

Irshath came back strong in the third frame, capitalizing on an early mistake by Asif. But Asif’s remarkable 58-point clearance break turned the tide in his favor. From there, Asif went on to win the remaining frames by scores of 109-6 and 74-0, completing a commanding victory.

Throughout the tournament, Asif maintained an unbeaten run, including a semi-final victory over fellow Pakistani Muhammad Naseem Akhtar, who had been undefeated until their encounter. Asif’s flawless performance and tactical brilliance have rightfully earned him the title of SAARC Snooker Champion.
