“I feel very proud that my journey of 9 years with this amazing team has been wonderful,” says Sarfaraz.
In a heartfelt announcement, former Pakistan skipper and celebrated cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed has officially parted ways with Quetta Gladiators, marking the end of a remarkable nine-year association ahead of the much-anticipated 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The iconic wicketkeeper-batter, who has been a cornerstone of the Gladiators since the league’s inception in 2016, shared the news via Instagram. Posting a photo with the franchise owner Nadeem Omar, Sarfaraz expressed his gratitude and reflected on his journey with the team.
“Today I want to tell you that my time with Quetta Gladiators has come to an end, and I feel very proud that my journey of 9 years with this amazing team has been wonderful and beautiful,” he wrote.
Sarfaraz acknowledged Nadeem Omar’s unwavering support and thanked the team management, especially Azam Khan, for their guidance over the years. His heartfelt message also extended his best wishes for the Gladiators’ future endeavors.
A Legacy with Quetta Gladiators
Sarfaraz Ahmed’s contributions to the team are unparalleled. Over nine seasons, he played 86 matches for the Gladiators, amassing 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, including seven half-centuries. His leadership culminated in Quetta Gladiators securing their maiden PSL title in 2019, a moment cherished by fans and the cricketing fraternity alike.
However, his journey with the team came to a transitional phase when he was replaced as captain by South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw during the previous edition. Now, for the first time since the PSL’s inaugural season, Sarfaraz will be part of the players’ draft, opening a new chapter in his illustrious career.
As PSL 10 approaches, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await to see which franchise secures the services of this legendary player. Sarfaraz’s departure from Quetta Gladiators marks the end of an era, but his legacy will forever remain etched in the hearts of fans.
