Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a recent federal cabinet meeting, reaffirmed his commitment to national security, political stability, and economic prosperity. Addressing key issues ranging from counterterrorism efforts to economic policies, the premier underscored that sustainable development is impossible without peace.
Honoring the Nation’s Heroes
At the meeting, PM Shehbaz paid heartfelt tribute to Major Hamza Israr and Sepoy Muhammad Naeem, two brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in North Waziristan. He emphasized the essential role of the armed forces in safeguarding Pakistan and ensuring national stability.
“A 29-year-old major gave his life for the country. It is our duty to honour and respect these sacrifices,” he stated.
The premier stressed that countering extremism remains the government’s top priority and assured that those challenging the state’s authority will face decisive action.
Political Developments: Dialogue with PTI
The prime minister highlighted recent political tensions, revealing that the government had accepted PTI’s offer for dialogue and even formed a negotiation committee. However, he expressed disappointment that PTI backed out of the meeting scheduled for January 28.
“They ran away after setting the date. We said we will respond to them in writing,” he said.
He further questioned why past political events, such as PTI’s 2014 sit-in, are overlooked when discussing national matters, urging a fair and transparent approach to political investigations.
Economic Measures & The Path to Stability
Discussing economic policies, PM Shehbaz welcomed the 1% reduction in interest rates, though he advocated for a 2% cut to stimulate economic growth further. He stressed that Pakistan cannot afford more financial setbacks and called for a stable economic environment.
Crackdown on Human Trafficking
Expressing concern over human trafficking, the prime minister revealed that the government is implementing strict measures to curb illegal migration. He stated that until this issue is eradicated, Pakistan will not engage in discussions with international stakeholders like China regarding related matters.
PM Shehbaz’s address reflected his firm stance on national security, economic stability, and political transparency. As Pakistan navigates through these crucial challenges, dialogue, peace, and decisive action will shape the nation’s future.
