Polio Vaccination Now a Must for Umrah Pilgrims from Pakistan – Ministry of Religious Affairs Issues Guidelines
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made it mandatory for all Umrah pilgrims traveling from Pakistan to be vaccinated against polio. A formal notification has been issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), reinforcing strict health measures for incoming travelers.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has instructed Umrah operators, airline offices, and all Pakistani pilgrims to ensure they receive the oral polio vaccine (OPV) at least four weeks prior to departure. Moreover, travelers must carry their polio vaccination certificate to avoid any complications during their journey.
The Saudi embassy has issued a clear directive that applies to travelers from polio-endemic and re-established transmission countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Chad, and Nigeria. To obtain a Saudi entry visa, proof of polio vaccination at least six weeks before travel is essential.
Saudi officials have also issued a strict warning regarding non-compliance with these new health regulations. Legal action may be taken against individuals or organizations that fail to follow these requirements.
Saudi authorities have implemented this measure to protect public health and prevent potential polio outbreaks among pilgrims. Since Pakistan remains one of the few countries where polio is still a concern, these strict regulations are meant to ensure the safety of all visitors.
Pilgrims are strongly advised to complete their polio vaccination on time and carry valid documentation to prevent any disruptions in their travel plans.
