Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Announces Free Transplant Surgeries for Deserving Patients
The government of Punjab has taken a historic step toward transforming healthcare accessibility with the launch of the ‘Chief Minister Punjab Transplant Program’. This initiative, led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, marks the most comprehensive transplant program in Pakistan’s history, ensuring free-of-cost organ transplants for deserving patients.
This groundbreaking program covers five major transplant procedures, including:
✅ Liver Transplants – Offering a new lease on life to patients suffering from end-stage liver disease.
✅ Kidney Transplants – Providing relief to those battling kidney failure.
✅ Bone Marrow Transplants – A crucial treatment for patients with blood disorders and cancers.
✅ Cornea Transplants – Restoring vision for the visually impaired.
✅ Cochlear Implants – Enabling children born with hearing impairments to hear and communicate effectively.
For the first time in Punjab’s history, both government and private hospitals will be part of this initiative, ensuring accessibility across the province.
How to Apply for Free Transplants?
Patients who require any of the above procedures can register with the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) to avail of the free transplant services. To facilitate citizens further, a toll-free helpline (09009 0800) has been set up for inquiries and assistance.
A Commitment to Quality Healthcare
Speaking at the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated the government’s dedication to healthcare accessibility. She highlighted how this initiative will remove the financial barriers that prevent people from getting life-saving surgeries.
“The state is aware of every citizen’s needs, and we will fulfill our duty. Transplantation is a complex and expensive process that an ordinary person cannot afford. Now, the government will bear this responsibility,” – Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
She also emphasized the importance of cochlear implants, explaining how they will enable children to live normal lives after regaining their hearing ability. Similarly, she noted that corneal transplants will restore vision, allowing visually impaired individuals to regain independence.
What This Means for Punjab?
This initiative is set to benefit thousands of patients across the province, especially those who could not afford costly transplants before. It is a monumental step toward improving public healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their financial status, can receive life-saving treatments.
With free liver and kidney transplants, this initiative will reduce the financial burden on families while enhancing the overall quality of life. This program truly signifies the Punjab government’s vision of a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous society.
