In light of the intensifying tensions in the Middle East, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, underscoring Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace through diplomatic engagement. The gesture came in response to the missile strikes allegedly targeting a U.S. military facility in Qatar—an event that raised concerns about the possibility of widespread regional conflict.
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Outreach in Crisis
Demonstrating Pakistan’s proactive approach, PM Shehbaz Sharif held urgent meetings in Islamabad with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al Malkiy and Qatari Ambassador Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater. These interactions reflect Pakistan’s traditional role as a voice of moderation in global affairs, especially in the Muslim world.
During his meeting with the Saudi envoy, PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “Pakistan will continue to work closely with Saudi Arabia for peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy,” he stated in a social media post. The Prime Minister also extended heartfelt prayers for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Expressing Support to Qatar During Critical Times
In a separate meeting with the Qatari ambassador, PM Shehbaz extended full support to Qatar following the attack on the U.S. military base situated on its territory. He emphasized Pakistan’s concern over the evolving situation and conveyed prayers for the safety of the Qatari people.
“We pray for the safety and security of our Qatari brothers and sisters, and the entire region,” PM Shehbaz posted on X (formerly Twitter), reinforcing Pakistan’s call for calm and a return to dialogue.
Pakistan Advocates for De-escalation and Sovereignty
Shortly after the incidents, the Prime Minister had reached out telephonically to both envoys, urging restraint and encouraging peaceful resolution. These conversations were received positively, with the Qatari envoy terming the outreach a “meaningful gesture” of solidarity. The Saudi ambassador also agreed that close cooperation between the two countries was essential to curb further escalation.
The Foreign Office of Pakistan released a formal statement condemning any actions violating the sovereignty of nations and calling for immediate de-escalation. Pakistan’s stance remains firm: the only sustainable path to peace in the region lies in dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect.
Shifting Sands: Iran, Israel, and Global Reactions
Adding complexity to the situation, Israel confirmed it had accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States, crediting former President Trump for his diplomatic role. Meanwhile, Iran denied agreeing to any formal ceasefire, maintaining its position that it reserves the right to respond to foreign aggression.
Pakistan, meanwhile, has remained neutral yet firm in its position—urging calm, rejecting violence, and reaffirming its brotherly ties with both Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
