Threads Closes In on X’s Daily Active Users – A New Era in Social Media Begins

News DeskTech3 days ago10 Views

In the ever-evolving world of social media, competition is fierce, and new platforms rise swiftly to challenge the old. One such rising contender is Meta’s Threads, which is now gaining serious momentum and closing in on X (formerly known as Twitter) in terms of daily mobile active users. The numbers are speaking for themselves, and the digital space is witnessing a fascinating shift.

Threads Sees Explosive Growth in Daily Mobile Users

According to the latest data from market intelligence firm Similarweb, Threads has experienced an astounding 127.8% year-over-year growth, reaching 115.1 million daily active mobile users across iOS and Android platforms. This impressive rise has put Threads within reach of its major rival, X, which stands at 132 million daily active users as of June 2025.

This growth reflects the increasing user interest in alternative platforms that offer fresh experiences and potentially fewer controversies. For Meta, this surge couldn’t come at a better time, as the company leans heavily into mobile engagement and ad-driven monetisation strategies for Threads.

X’s Growth Slows Down Amid Increased Competition

While X continues to lead globally in both app and web usage, its user growth has declined by 15.2% compared to the previous year. Despite still boasting 145.8 million daily web visits, its decreasing momentum hints at potential stagnation. In contrast, Threads, although significantly behind in web traffic (only 6.9 million daily web visits), is rapidly catching up in the one area that matters most for future growth—mobile app usage.

US Market Reflects the Tightening Race

In the competitive US market, the gap between Threads and X is even narrower. Threads now commands 15.3 million daily active mobile users, while X leads with 22.9 million. While still behind, Threads is inching closer by the day, making it clear that the platform has captured user interest and is here to stay.

Bluesky: A Rising Star or a Fading Trend?

Meanwhile, Bluesky, the decentralised social network that once sparked interest for offering an alternative to mainstream platforms, has seen a 372.5% surge in daily users year-over-year. Yet, even with this growth, its current global user base stands at just 4.1 million daily active users, making it a distant third in this social media race.

In the US, Bluesky only draws 1.1 million daily users. Although the platform gained traction amid backlash against Elon Musk’s decisions and his political affiliations, criticisms about it becoming a politically one-sided space may be driving users away.

The Bigger Picture: Threads Challenges the Status Quo

Threads’ rise is more than just a tech success story—it represents a shift in user preferences. As Meta continues to refine the app’s interface, build features, and enhance engagement opportunities, Threads is becoming a genuine alternative for those looking to move away from the chaotic energy of X.

With its explosive growth, increasing daily engagement, and strong mobile focus, Threads is not just closing the gap—it’s poised to reshape the future of digital conversations.

Final Thoughts

The battle for daily active users is heating up, and Threads’ rapid ascent shows that users are open to change. While X maintains a lead, Threads’ mobile-first strategy and Meta’s deep investment in its ecosystem make it a serious competitor in the social media landscape.

As users continue exploring new platforms and digital experiences, one thing is clear: the social media war is far from over—and Threads is becoming a frontrunner.
