KARACHI: On Thursday, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) held a demonstration at the K-Electric headquarters in Karachi, calling for an end to the city’s protracted power outages.
In his speech to the group, senior leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said, “Up to 10 hours of load shedding are experienced by houses in Karachi. Our main request right now is to put an end to these blackouts.”
He threatened K-Electric with a greater public uproar should the circumstances continue. “This is our first protest, but the administration should fear the day when millions of consumers will stand in front of their offices.”
Ali Khursheedi, the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, also spoke and criticised the utility firm. “K-Electric’s poor administration causes suffering for every Karachi resident. Thousands of people showed up for this sit-in within 24 hours after MQM-P called for it.”
Khursheedi continued, saying K-Electric needs to adopt a new strategy. “If they don’t, the people of Karachi are free to make their own decisions.”
Prominent figures who attended the demonstration included Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani and Nasreen Jalil.
