Authorities fear my release will unite people: Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mahmood Qureshi, stated that he is being charged with false accusations and that authorities fear his release could spark popular mobilisation. During his appearance in a Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court for hearings pertaining to the violent cases of May 9, he made these remarks. “I was detained more than a year after these cases were filed, even though I wasn’t in Punjab at the time. I was quickly arrested again after being released on fresh allegations pertaining to May 9,” he informed the judge.

The former foreign minister declared, “I have never thought of fleeing,” reiterating his dedication to the rule of law. As the founding leader of PTI’s deputy captain, I have been in politics for 40 years without facing any legal action till

He said that officials were avoiding arguments in order to drag out the case, and he further accused the prosecution of purposefully postponing the trial.

“If we are culpable, we ought to face consequences. The nation’s time is being wasted by them,” he continued.

He is handling fifty-five cases at the moment.

He urged the prompt administration of justice and emphasised his faith in the legal system.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was indicted a few months ago in connection with the Shadman police station arson that occurred on May 9, 2023.
