Tennis player Aisamul Haq, who also serves as President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, has been diagnosed with a herniated disc. The Pakistani squad for the Davis Cup left Islamabad on Saturday and travelled to Barbados, where they will play the home team on September 14. Aisam-ul-Haq was supposed to go with the squad as a player, but he was unable to do so because of his herniated disc. It looks like he won’t be playing in the Davis Cup tie. Three officials are among the eight members of the Pakistani team that is going to Barbados. Ahmad Qureshi, Yusuf Khalil, Muhammad Shoaib, and Aqeel Khan make up the team.
The captain is Hamid Haq, the coach is Muhammad Khalid, the manager/secretary is Colonel (retd) Ziauddin Tufail, and the physiotherapist is Muhammad Shahid.
The 48 teams that will compete in World Group I and World Group II in the 2024 Davis Cup have been released. Notable players like Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Norway’s Casper Ruud are on these teams.
There will be 228 players competing for their nations in the World Group I and II matches. In addition, over 300 athletes will compete this month, including 16 teams that will compete in the Group Stage of the Davis Cup Finals next week.
As he works to bring tennis back to Pakistan, tennis star Aisamul Haq Qureshi became the first active player to assume the post of President earlier this year.
He has taken over as the elected head of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), succeeding politician Salim Saifullah, who is stepping down as president.
Aisam will serve four-year terms ending in 2028.
On February 10, at the PTF SDA Tennis Complex in Islamabad, the federation held its election. Eight out of fifteen units voted for Aisam, making him the winner. Retired Major General Asghar Nawaz garnered seven votes.
The Pakistani under-12 tennis team, meanwhile, left earlier today to compete in the ATF Under-12 Championship, which takes place in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, from September 16–21.
Twelve teams from all throughout the region will compete in the tournament.
Rashid Ali, Muhammad Junaid, and Shayaan Afridi are the three players on the team. Coach Muhammad Abid, who is not a player, will go with the team.
In addition to competing in the competition, the team is anticipated to attend a thorough three-week preparation camp.
