On Friday, three carriages of the Sir Syed Express derailed close to the Rohri railway station, halting train operations on the uptrack. There were no confirmed casualties.

Railway officials said that the train, which was headed from Karachi to Rawalpindi, derailed 1.5 miles before it arrived at the Rohri station in Sukkur.

According to sources, the train was approaching the station more slowly, which probably stopped a more serious accident. Currently, rescue efforts are being carried out to clear the uptrack and return regular train services. The derailment’s cause is still unknown, and the impacted track is still shut.

Just this past September 1st, the Sir Syed Express began running again after being suspended for two years due to flooding. While efforts are underway to rebuild the track and resume services, authorities are looking into the event.

Authorities from Pakistan Railways (PR) recently started running the Sir Syed Express between Rawalpindi and Karachi again after it had stopped operating two years earlier.

There will be 16 carriages in the train, which is numbered 35 Up for the Rawalpindi to Karachi route and 36 Down for the return trip.

It is anticipated to provide Pakistan Railways an annual revenue of about Rs3 billion when it travels from Faisalabad to Karachi.

It is expected that this revenue will lead to better railway conditions, as it takes a day to travel from Rawalpindi to Karachi.

On Wednesday, the train—which runs on a public-private partnership—left for Karachi.

Jhelum, Gujarat, Wazirabad, Sangla Hill, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Rohri, and Hyderabad are the routes it will take to reach Karachi.

The train, which will travel the Faisalabad route with 16 coaches, is anticipated to be a profitable endeavour.
