Netflix faces new round of layoffs amid PR reorganization, impacting series and film publicity

Netflix is undergoing another round of layoffs as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts, affecting around 10 employees in the film and series publicity departments. This move is being spearheaded by Natalie Bjelajac, who became the Vice President of Domestic Publicity in July 2024.

One of the most prominent figures impacted by these cuts is Jason Clark, the Director of Publicity, who had been with Netflix for over seven years. Clark shared his feelings about the layoff on Instagram, saying, “Getting laid off sucks, which has impacted many of my Netflix friends today and over the past months.” His heartfelt message reflects the emotional toll these layoffs have taken on those affected.

Coincidentally, these layoffs coincide with an announcement from Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, regarding new series pickups and renewals during the Bloomberg Screentime event. This juxtaposition underscores the complexities of the current media landscape.

This latest round of job cuts follows previous layoffs, including a significant reduction in April when 15 employees in the film department were let go after a shift in leadership when Dan Lin succeeded Scott Stuber.

These workforce reductions highlight the broader challenges faced by the media industry, as economic pressures continue to prompt significant job losses across various companies throughout 2024.
