JoJo Siwa compares backlash over controversial magazine cover to Harry Styles’ Vogue cover criticism

JoJo Siwa has addressed the controversy surrounding her recent LadyGunn magazine cover, where she wore a chest plate and added a fake bulge, sparking discussion about gender norms. On the October 8 episode of the “Talk Tuah” podcast, Siwa opened up about her choice, explaining, “The stone bulge was just a fun twist—playing with gender, showing you can be anything you want.” She compared the backlash she received to that faced by Harry Styles when he wore a dress on the cover of Vogue in 2020, noting, “Obviously, wearing a bulge is a little different than wearing a dress.”

Siwa expressed her commitment to representing those who feel they don’t fit into societal molds, though she acknowledged that the criticism has been tough, calling it “brutal.” She added, “It’s really hard. People are just harsh.” Despite the backlash, Siwa remains steadfast in promoting individuality and creativity, citing other stars like Styles and Billy Porter as inspiration, who’ve also faced criticism for challenging fashion norms.

While facing intense reactions, Siwa stands by her artistic choices and encourages everyone to celebrate their uniqueness.
