Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a monumental step in healthcare by approving the country’s first Dialysis Programme, with Rs. 1 million allocated per patient. This initiative aims to provide free dialysis services, medicines, and tests, ensuring uninterrupted care for kidney patients across the province.
Presiding over a meeting, the chief minister emphasized the importance of maintaining healthcare standards, directing the Punjab Healthcare Commission to enforce strict SOPs and monitor all dialysis centers closely. The approval of additional dialysis units across Punjab marks a significant expansion in healthcare infrastructure.
Comprehensive Healthcare Reforms
The CM expressed concern over the spread of AIDS among dialysis patients in Multan, calling it a “shameful and regrettable” situation. She ordered an immediate report within 24 hours and emphasized that dialysis procedures should not be halted due to a lack of funds.
In a show of solidarity, the Punjab government has also extended free dialysis services and medicines to patients from Sindh, Balochistan, and other regions, showcasing an inclusive healthcare approach.
Focus on Other Key Health Projects
- Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital: A progress report was reviewed, with the CM directing the swift appointment of a hospital head to accelerate services.
- Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC-2) and Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology: The CM called for the availability of state-of-the-art equipment and training programs for specialist doctors.
- Performance Monitoring: Key performance indicators (KPIs) were introduced to ensure accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery.
Empowering Farmers with the Kissan Card Program
In addition to healthcare advancements, Punjab’s agriculture sector is also receiving a boost. Over 1.4 million applications were received under the Chief Minister Punjab’s Kissan Card initiative, with 495,000 approved after scrutiny. Farmers have already purchased agricultural inputs worth Rs. 21 billion through the program.
Under the Green Tractor Program, allotment letters were issued to over 9,000 successful applicants, with the deadline for payment set for December 5. These initiatives aim to enhance agricultural productivity and empower farmers financially.
A Vision for Inclusive Development
From providing free healthcare to empowering the farming community, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s leadership reflects a holistic approach to governance. With strategic investments in health and agriculture, Punjab is setting an example for other provinces to follow.
