Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a strong directive to the authorities, instructing them to take firm action against those responsible for the martyrdom and injuries of law enforcement personnel, as well as the extensive damage to public property during the violent protests in Islamabad on November 24. This comes as the government intensifies efforts to bring perpetrators of the unrest to justice.
A Response to Violent Protests in Islamabad
The violent riots were triggered by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in the capital, where over 10,000 protesters defied a public gathering ban and caused chaos in the city. The situation escalated as protestors clashed with security forces, leading to heavy use of tear gas by riot police as they tried to control the crowds near the barricaded D-Chowk area.
The clashes resulted in the martyrdom of law enforcement officers and left several injured. Despite the PTI leadership calling off the sit-in, the turmoil caused significant political and security tensions, not only in Islamabad but across the entire country.
Task Force Formed for Strict Action
In response to the violence, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a special task force to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible face strict legal consequences. The task force will focus on identifying the individuals involved and ensuring that justice is served. The prime minister emphasized the importance of regular updates on the legal proceedings, which will be reviewed weekly.
He also condemned the attack on Islamabad, noting the embarrassment caused by the protests during the official visit of the Belarusian president, which further added to the crisis.
Long-Term Security Measures
In addition to addressing the immediate situation, the Prime Minister outlined several long-term measures to prevent such incidents in the future. He announced plans to establish a world-class anti-riot force, designed to meet contemporary security challenges, and to upgrade the Islamabad Safe City project to international standards. This upgrade will include the establishment of a new forensic lab and the allocation of necessary resources for enhancing security measures.
Furthermore, authorities have collected vital evidence from the crime scene, including weapons and cartridges, which will undergo forensic analysis. The government has committed to quickly identifying the rioters, who will soon face legal action.
Conclusion: A Step Towards a Safer, More Secure Pakistan
With these significant actions and long-term plans, Prime Minister Sharif aims to restore peace and ensure that such violent acts are prevented in the future. His leadership in directing authorities to take stringent measures is a clear signal that the government will not tolerate any form of violence or disruption to public order.
