In a significant development, the Pakistan Army has traced recent terrorist activities within the country to militant groups operating with support and freedom from Afghan soil. This revelation was shared by Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the chief spokesperson of the Pakistan Army, during a news conference in Rawalpindi.
Lt-Gen Chaudhry emphasized that the military is resolute in dismantling terrorist networks to ensure the safety and security of Pakistan’s citizens. “No stone will be left unturned in securing our nation,” he affirmed.
This statement comes amid escalating tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, highlighting Pakistan’s concerns about safe havens for terrorist groups within Afghanistan. The army’s position underscores a broader policy shift, signaling that the status quo with Afghanistan is no longer acceptable.
The ISPR chief also addressed domestic challenges, including the repercussions of past decisions to negotiate with militants and the impact of “negative politics” on national security. He stressed the importance of justice and accountability, whether it concerns violent protests, military conduct, or anti-terrorism court cases.
This year alone, security forces have conducted nearly 60,000 intelligence-based operations, eliminating 925 terrorists, including high-value targets, while sacrificing the lives of 383 personnel. The spokesperson also warned of ongoing threats from India on the eastern border, with multiple ceasefire violations and instances of unprovoked aggression.
