Pakistan’s Citrus Exports Reach $30.9 Million in Six Months

Pakistan’s citrus fruit exports have gained momentum, earning the country significant revenue in the global market. According to data shared by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan in the National Assembly, Pakistan exported 105,690 metric tons of citrus fruits between July and December 2024, generating $30.9 million in earnings.

Major Markets for Pakistani Citrus

Pakistan’s citrus, especially kinnow, is in high demand worldwide. In the last six months, the country exported citrus fruits to 25 countries, with Afghanistan being the largest buyer. Here’s a breakdown of the top importers:

  • Afghanistan – $16.72 million
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) – $3.90 million
  • Indonesia – $3.30 million
  • Other importers include the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, and Belgium.

The rising export figures reflect Pakistan’s strong presence in the global citrus market and highlight the country’s potential in agribusiness.

Pakistan’s Trade Deficit Trends

Apart from citrus exports, Minister Jam Kamal Khan also provided insights into Pakistan’s trade deficit over the past five years. The figures indicate fluctuations in trade balance:

  • 2020 – $23.16 billion
  • 2021 – $31.8 billion
  • 2022 – $48.35 billion (highest)
  • 2023 – $27.47 billion
  • 2024 – $24.11 billion

The decline in trade deficit in recent years is a positive indicator for the country’s economic stability and trade performance.

Growing Citrus Export Industry in Pakistan

Pakistan’s kinnow and other citrus varieties are highly regarded globally due to their taste and quality. With an increase in demand, the government and exporters are focusing on improving packaging, logistics, and market expansion. Ensuring high-quality standards and exploring new markets can further boost Pakistan’s citrus exports in the coming years.
