Fuel costs in Pakistan may be headed for another surge, as global crude oil prices continue their upward climb. According to industry sources, the petrol price in Pakistan is expected to increase by Rs6.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) could see a Rs5.27 per litre jump. This anticipated adjustment is set to take effect over the next 15 days.
In contrast, kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) might see a modest decline of Rs3.74 and Rs2.23 per litre, respectively. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has already compiled its report based on international pricing trends and submitted the pricing summary for final approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Once approved, the revised fuel prices will be implemented as part of the government’s biweekly price review system. These changes come just weeks after a significant hike earlier this month when petrol climbed by Rs8.36 and diesel by Rs10.39 following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Pakistan, which imports nearly 85% of its petroleum supply, remains vulnerable to fluctuations in the global oil market. The recent Iran-Israel conflict has further strained prices globally, impacting local fuel costs directly.
Stay tuned for the official announcement expected tonight.
