A Pakistani-origin artist has taken Pakistani truck art to an international sports stage by designing a vibrant custom logo for the San Jose Sharks, celebrating South Asian culture in a bold and colorful way.
The artwork was created by Bay Area–based multidisciplinary artist Muneeba Zeeshan as part of the team’s South Asian Culture Celebration at the SAP Center. The event highlighted cultural diversity while welcoming fans from across the South Asian community.
Originally connected to Pakistan through her roots, Zeeshan has been passionate about art since childhood. When she was invited to create a special design for the NHL franchise, she saw an opportunity to blend the team’s identity with a visual language close to her heart.
The result was a striking concept inspired by Pakistani truck art, a folk style famous for decorating buses and trucks across Pakistan with dazzling colors, intricate patterns, and symbolic imagery. By adapting this traditional style, Zeeshan transformed the Sharks’ emblem into a cultural showcase.
The centerpiece of the design features a shark rendered in bright teal shades, surrounded by elaborate truck-art motifs such as flowers, birds, and ornamental patterns. These elements reflect the lively aesthetic that makes Pakistani truck art instantly recognizable worldwide.
Another highlight of the project is a shoulder patch design inspired by Pakistan’s famously decorated trucks. The illustration depicts a stylized truck adorned with vibrant floral patterns and detailed embellishments a tribute to the country’s iconic roadside art tradition.
Beyond its visual appeal, the artwork also carries deeper symbolic meanings rooted in South Asian artistic traditions.
A crescent motif appears within the design, representing protection and blessings. Peacocks symbolize beauty and pride, while roses and floral patterns reflect themes of love, growth, prosperity, and spiritual devotion ideas often associated with South Asian and Sufi art.
The custom design was showcased throughout the SAP Center and along Barack Obama Boulevard near the arena, welcoming fans attending the celebration.
For Zeeshan, seeing her work displayed during the event was a deeply meaningful moment. She described the collaboration as both humbling and an honor, allowing her to share a piece of Pakistani heritage with a global sports audience.
By bringing Pakistani truck art into the world of professional hockey, the project not only celebrated cultural diversity but also highlighted the vibrant artistic traditions of Pakistan on an international platform.
