“Let Us Know When It Folds”: Samsung’s cheeky response to Apple’s Iphone 16 series launch

The long-running tech rivalry has taken a new turn as South Korean electronics behemoth Samsung has rekindled its light-hearted rivalry with Apple. After Apple unveiled its most anticipated product at Monday’s Glowtime event, Samsung made a playful joke about its rival on social media. Along with improvements for the Apple Watch Series 10, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and a redesigned AirPods portfolio, Apple unveiled its new iPhone 16 series at the event. Along with iOS 18 updates, the event showcased Apple’s most recent technology developments.

But Samsung took advantage of the excitement in the IT community around Apple’s unveiling to poke fun at the company. “Let us know when it folds,” was a 2022 comment that Samsung re-posted on its official X (previously Twitter) account. This remark was made in reference to Apple’s persistent absence from the foldable smartphone market, but it also acknowledged Samsung’s own successes in the space, especially with the widely-liked Galaxy Z Fold6.

Following up, Samsung published a fresh post titled “Still waiting..” in which it emphasised how fiercely the two tech giants are still at odds.

The tweet went viral right after, generating a flurry of responses on social media. Although a lot of Samsung fans laughed at the circumstances, there were differing opinions on the post as a whole. While some users supported Samsung’s statement, others criticised it.

Samsung has made jabs at Apple in the past as well. Samsung has made fun of Apple’s ads in the past, most notably when it replied to an iPad Pro advertisement.

Many saw the advertisement, which showed a hydraulic press smashing different artistic equipment, as a metaphor for how technology is stifling creativity. Samsung responded by releasing a 43-second commercial called “Creativity Cannot Be crushed.

The advertisement featured a woman looking among the wreckage left by Apple’s hydraulic press for a ragged guitar and strumming it while using a Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra to read music notation. The message from Samsung was quite clear: “We would never crush creativity.”

Samsung’s most recent social media post highlights the ongoing battle between the two tech giants, who are both acutely aware of the effects of their most recent inventions on the market.

At thrice the price of the most recent iPhone, Huawei unveiled the first triple-folding phone in history.

Hours after its US rival introduced its own new AI-powered phone, the Chinese tech giant Huawei on Tuesday unveiled the world’s first triple-folding phone at a price more than three times that of the most recent iPhone. Richard Yu, an executive of Huawei, gave a keynote address at the company’s headquarters in the southern city of Shenzhen to officially announce the Mate XT.

Prior to its release, almost three million people expressed interest in purchasing the Mate XT, which was once intended as a high-end phone for a specific market.

On September 20, the device will be on sale formally. The starting price is a mouthwatering $2,800, which is more than three times the price of the recently released iPhone 16.

Featuring a sleek red and gold appearance, the phone weighs 298 grammes (10.5 ounces) and can be turned into a 10.2 inch (26 centimetre) tablet.

Richard Yu stated during the keynote, “This is the first triple-folding phone in history.”

“We have put in a huge amount of effort into solving the problems regarding mass production and product reliability,” he continued. Its release follows Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 16, which is designed to leverage generative artificial intelligence to increase sales and stay competitive in the technology space.
