RAWALPINDI: PTI founder Imran Khan issued a warning to the government on Saturday, stating that the opposition party would fight any attempt to weaken the judiciary’s authority to the hilt. This comes as the ruling coalition considers amending the constitution to include broad judicial changes.
“To be free, one must make sacrifices. Speaking to reporters during a court in the £190 corruption case, PTI founder Imran Khan declared, “Democracy is being massacred, and they are going to enslave the country.” The former prime minister chastised the ruling coalition for what he claimed was an attempt to modify the constitution to prolong the tenure of Qazi Faez Isa, the current Chief Justice of Pakistan.
“They wish to defend electoral fraud and abuses of human rights. To include Qazi Faez Isa, a new constitutional amendment is being proposed. The nation is now completely devoid of democracy. Democracy ended when a party with fewer than 20 MPs was seated in parliament, he declared.
Imran claims that there are limitations on judges and the media. He criticised the ruling PML-N, saying: “They talked about honouring democracy and the vote, but they really honoured the boot” (the army). “An FIR has been lodged against me due to a post on social media. Why don’t they read the country the report of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission as well? Martial law would never have been declared in Pakistan if they had followed that report,” he continued.
The former prime minister declared that his party will stage a rally in Lahore regardless of the circumstances and that they were preparing for a street revolution. “It is both our democratic and constitutional right to have rallies, but for the last six months, we have been denied the ability to do so. Has Punjab become into a police state where we can’t even hold a rally?” Imran said.
Imran, who has been imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail since last year, claims that the PPP and the ruling PML-N are involved in servitude rather than politics.
“I am willing to give my life in order to free others, but I will never submit to oppression. He stated, “What is happening to us today might also happen to them tomorrow.”
