According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan has appointed Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik, HI (M), as the new Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will assume the role on September 30, succeeding Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who has served as DG ISI since 2021, following his appointment by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Lt Gen Asim Malik, currently serving as Adjutant General at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, has a distinguished military career. He has previously commanded an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan, both critical areas for Pakistan’s defense.

Recognized for his academic excellence and leadership, Lt Gen Malik was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour during his military training. His career includes roles as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.

His educational background is notable, with graduations from both the United States Army’s Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.

Lt Gen Asim brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having held several high-level leadership positions throughout his military career. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, which is central to the country’s domestic and international security operations.

The ISPR made the official announcement in a press release on Monday.
