The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester celebrated a night of talent, tribute, and triumph, headlined by none other than Taylor Swift, who stole the spotlight with four major awards. Swift took home Best Artist, Best U.S. Act, Best Live Act, and Best Video for her hit “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Although currently across the Atlantic on her record-breaking Eras tour, Swift thanked her dedicated fans via video message for their overwhelming support.

Opening the show was Benson Boone, who mesmerized the audience with his acrobatic entrance, performing his viral hit “Beautiful Things” while suspended on a gold grand piano. This electrifying moment also marked a milestone for Boone, who claimed his first EMA for Best New Act.

Swift faced fierce competition from South African sensation Tyla, who made waves by securing three awards for Best Afrobeats, Best R&B, and Best African Act. Tyla thrilled the audience with her vibrant performance of “Water” and new track “Push 2 Start,” showcasing her remarkable rise in the global music scene.

Rita Ora, the evening’s host, paid a heartfelt tribute to Liam Payne, the beloved former One Direction star who tragically passed away last month. Holding back tears, Ora remembered Payne as “one of the kindest people” she knew and led the audience in a moment of reflection.

Legendary hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes received the EMA’s Global Icon Award, presented by British rapper Little Simz. In an emotional moment, Busta shared how meaningful the honor was after 34 years in the industry. His energetic medley of hits, including “Break Ya Neck” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” brought the audience to their feet, with dancers sporting dragon-head tracksuits adding to the dynamic spectacle.

Other standout performances included Shawn Mendes, who delivered an intimate rendition and won Best Canadian Act, and Sabrina Carpenter, who took home Best Song for her track “Espresso.” The evening also honored Ariana Grande with Best Pop Act, and Eminem with Best Hip Hop Act.

British legends Pet Shop Boys closed out the evening with a powerful orchestral rendition of “West End Girls,” celebrating 40 years since its release, and received the Pop Pioneers Award for their significant contributions to music.

The night also featured unforgettable performances by Le Sserafim, Peso Pluma, Raye, and Teddy Swims, each adding their unique style to the night’s celebration of global music. With presenters including stars like LL Cool J and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the 2024 MTV EMAs were a true celebration of talent, unity, and unforgettable moments in the music world.
