Pakistan Independence Day 2026: President, PM, and Leaders Share Messages of Unity and National Pride

Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day on August 14, 2026, with messages from the country’s political and military leadership highlighting sacrifice, national unity, security, peace, and the responsibility of citizens toward Pakistan’s future.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the military leadership, and several political figures extended Independence Day greetings to Pakistanis at home and abroad while remembering the people whose sacrifices made the country’s creation possible.

President Zardari Remembers the Struggle for Pakistan

In his Independence Day message, President Asif Ali Zardari described August 14 as an occasion to remember the sacrifices behind the creation of Pakistan.

He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement, and those who sacrificed their homes, security and livelihoods during the struggle for a separate homeland.

The president also said that the recent Marka-e-Haq had demonstrated Pakistan’s desire for peace as well as its ability to defend itself. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to reducing tensions and supporting regional stability.

Addressing the Kashmir issue, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying the country supports a peaceful resolution in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations resolutions.

He also stressed the importance of mutual respect and sovereignty in relations with Afghanistan, expressing concern over the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan and neighboring countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Highlights Economic Progress

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said Pakistan’s journey toward development and prosperity was moving forward despite the challenges faced by the country.

He said the government had successfully navigated difficult circumstances over the past two and a half years and had achieved its objective of economic stability.

The prime minister also praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their role in defending the country, saying their response during difficult moments and attacks had demonstrated their commitment to protecting the motherland.

Armed Forces Honour Martyrs and National Service

The armed forces, in their Independence Day message, highlighted the vision, courage and determination of the founders of Pakistan, describing their legacy as an enduring source of guidance for the nation.

Political Leaders Extend Independence Day Greetings

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar also congratulated Pakistanis at home and overseas on the occasion.

At a flag-hoisting ceremony held at Governor House Peshawar, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi congratulated the nation and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to live freely in an independent country.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman used his Independence Day message to reflect on the purpose behind Pakistan’s creation. He stressed the importance of remembering the price paid for freedom and called for national unity beyond regional, linguistic and group-based divisions.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described August 14 as a memorable day in Pakistan’s history and paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the struggle for independence. He also remembered security personnel and others who sacrificed their lives for peace and the defence of the country.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said Pakistan had been achieved after immense sacrifices and praised security forces serving in Balochistan for their continued sacrifices for peace.
