Pakistani actress Sahar Hashmi has drawn attention to the issue of delayed payments in the entertainment industry, questioning why artists are expected to meet strict deadlines while production houses can take weeks to clear their dues.
The actress shared her concerns through an Instagram Story, highlighting what she sees as an imbalance in the way professionalism is judged within showbiz. Her message called for accountability from both artists and the people responsible for paying them.
“Kaam 1 din late ho toh ‘unprofessional.’ Payment 30 din late ho toh ‘accounts mein process chal raha hai’. Professionalism dono taraf se hota hai,” Sahar wrote.
Her statement translates to the idea that an artist can be labelled unprofessional for delivering work a day late, while a payment delayed by 30 days may be excused with the explanation that it is still being processed by the accounts department.

Sahar’s remarks point to a familiar concern in professional working relationships: the expectation that employees and freelancers honour their commitments, even when those responsible for compensating them do not always meet the same standard.
In the entertainment business, actors and other creative professionals work according to production schedules, shooting commitments and agreed deadlines. Timely compensation is also an essential part of that arrangement, allowing professionals to manage their own financial responsibilities.
By drawing a direct comparison between late work and late payments, Sahar challenged the idea that professionalism should be measured differently depending on which side of a working relationship is involved.
Her post also brings attention to the importance of clear communication and respecting agreed payment timelines. When delays occur, transparent updates and accountability can help maintain trust between artists and production teams.
Although Sahar’s post focused on the broader issue of delayed payments, she did not identify a particular production house or name anyone in connection with her remarks.
Her message instead centred on the principle that professional responsibility should work both ways. Artists are expected to deliver their work as agreed, and employers should likewise honour their financial commitments within the established timeframe.
The issue raises an important question about fairness in the entertainment industry: if punctuality is a measure of professionalism for artists, should timely payment not be held to the same standard?
Sahar has appeared in Pakistani television dramas, including Zanjeerain and Dar-e-Nijaat. Her latest comments have brought attention to the working conditions and professional expectations that shape the entertainment business beyond what audiences see on screen.
By speaking about delayed payments, the actress has highlighted the importance of treating creative professionals with the same accountability expected of them. Ultimately, a fair working environment depends on mutual respect, clear agreements and a commitment to meeting obligations on both sides.
