The death of 15-year-old Muhammad Waseem Abbas in Multan has triggered widespread grief and anger, with Pakistani celebrities joining calls for justice and accountability. Actors Yumna Zaidi, Mishi Khan, Ahsan Khan, Sehar Khan and Faizan Sheikh have spoken out following reports surrounding the teenager’s tragic death.
The case has also raised serious questions about the protection of vulnerable children, particularly those living in institutional care and sent to workplaces to learn vocational skills.
According to police reports, Waseem was an orphan residing at an orphanage operated by a non-governmental organisation. He had reportedly been sent to learn electrical work under contractor Tauqeer Nazir at a private housing society in Multan.
Investigators said the teenager had been working with the contractor for approximately a week before the incident.

The incident reportedly took place on October 17, following an argument related to work. According to investigators, Waseem attempted to leave the workplace, after which the contractor allegedly pursued him in a car and struck him.
CCTV footage reportedly showed the teenager running away before being hit by the vehicle. Rescue officials said he suffered a severe head injury and died at the scene.
Police subsequently arrested Nazir and registered a murder case against him and another suspect, Amjad Ali. Investigators have also questioned members of the orphanage administration as they examine the circumstances surrounding Waseem’s placement and the events leading to his death.
The allegations remain subject to investigation and must be established through the legal process.
Actor Yumna Zaidi expressed her distress through an Instagram Story, drawing attention to the moral responsibility to protect orphaned children.
“Fear of Allah? The consequences will be harsh. So do not oppress the orphan. Ad. Duhaa verse. 9”, she wrote.
Her message referenced the Quranic instruction against mistreating orphans, bringing a religious dimension to the growing public conversation surrounding the case.
Veteran actor and television host Mishi Khan also voiced her anger over the reported circumstances of Waseem’s death. In an Instagram post, she questioned why the teenager had not been stopped and what had prompted him to run away from the workplace.
“Why didn’t he stop the monster who was driving?? And what was the reason that the kid ran from their workplace ??
Our investigation standard needs reforms as there are many glitches”.
Her comments highlighted concerns about the circumstances preceding the incident and the effectiveness of investigative procedures.
Actor Ahsan Khan emphasised the need for justice and urged the legal system to hold those responsible accountable under the law.
“True justice demands that the legal system reject all excuses and hold the killer fully acountable under the law to signal that the lives of the weak cannot be discarded by the powerful”.
His statement reflected the broader demand for a fair investigation and legal accountability in a case involving a child who reportedly lacked family protection.
Actor Sehar Khan also shared her reaction to the tragedy, expressing disbelief at the cruelty described in reports about the incident.
“Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around the kind of cruelty people are capable of. This world is becoming so difficult to process”.
Meanwhile, actor Faizan Sheikh criticised the state of law and order in the country, writing, “A new low everyday!”
Actor Faiza Khan also weighed in, stating, “This is what happens in a country where there is no rule of law”.
The celebrities’ reactions have contributed to an expanding public discussion about justice, accountability and the safety of vulnerable children.
Beyond the immediate calls for justice, Waseem’s death has raised important questions about the safeguards available to children living in orphanages and other care institutions.
When children are placed in workplaces for vocational training, their welfare, working conditions and access to protection become critical concerns. Proper oversight is also necessary to ensure that children can report mistreatment and seek help without fear.
The investigation into Waseem’s death will need to establish the circumstances surrounding his placement, the events at the workplace and the roles of those involved.
As the case proceeds, the public demand extends beyond accountability for this particular tragedy. It also highlights the need for stronger safeguards to ensure that children entrusted to adults and institutions receive the protection, supervision and support they deserve.
For now, the investigation remains ongoing, while celebrities and members of the public continue to call for justice for Waseem Abbas.
