Pakistani cueists make a winning start at the IBSF World 6 Red Snooker Championship

Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal and Awais Muneer delivered standout performances on the opening day of the 2024 IBSF World 6 Red Snooker Championship, each securing victories in their matches.

Asjad dominated Mongolia’s Ulziitogtokh Davaasuren with a 4-1 win, highlighted by two breaks over 75 points. The frame scores were: 50-18, 75(75)-0, 82(75)-0, 0-73(73), 64(61)-0.

Awais mounted a strong comeback to defeat Mongolia’s Mendsaikhan Bat-Erdene 4-2, overcoming early deficits. The frame scores were: 64(64)-0, 20-45, 0-54(47), 54-10, 53-21, 46-15.

Looking ahead, Asjad will face India’s Pandurangaiah, while Awais is set to compete against Singapore’s Jia Jun Ong in the next round. Later matches will see Asjad up against Iraq’s Alijalil Ali and Awais facing Israel’s Shachar Ruberg.

The championship features 40 players divided into 10 groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout stages. Knockout rounds will start on September 22, followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals on September 24, and the championship final on September 25.
