IMRAN KHAN SUPPORTS JUSTICE SHAH ON PROCEDURE ORDINANCE
Posted on September 24, 2024 by News Desk
Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has endorsed Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s stance on the Practice and Procedure Ordinance, backing the judge’s views on judicial reforms.
Speaking from Adiala Jail, Imran criticized recent Supreme Court decisions, alleging a conflict of interest within the judiciary. He accused Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of having a political agenda, linking him to the so-called “London Plan.” Imran also claimed that key justices, such as Ejaz ul Ahsan and Mazahir Naqvi, were sidelined to weaken PTI.
Imran expressed frustration over the judiciary’s bias, stating that PTI’s legal petitions have been ignored. He also criticized the lack of attention to military appointments, asserting that Pakistan has become a “police state.”
The PTI leader announced protests against judicial actions, including a rally in Rawalpindi on Saturday, which will proceed regardless of official permission.
PTI Challenges Practice and Procedure Ordinance in Court
PTI has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, challenging the Practice and Procedure Ordinance, claiming it violates a Supreme Court ruling. The petition argues that the ordinance breaches constitutional principles and calls for its suspension pending review.
The PTI contends that the ordinance, issued shortly after a parliamentary session, contradicts a Supreme Court ruling that such orders should only be made in emergencies. PTI also claims the government is using the ordinance to involve judges in political matters.
After filing the petition, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh stated the party is defending judicial independence, just as it did in 2007, and will continue the fight to safeguard the judiciary from political interference.
