SHAKIB AL HASAN SET TO PLAY VS SOUTH AFRICA DESPITE LEGAL ISSUES

Shakib Al Hasan is expected to play in the upcoming home Test series against South Africa, barring any injury or selection issues, according to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official.
Doubts over Shakib’s availability arose after he was named in a murder case linked to the death of a garment worker during protests on August 5. The case, filed on August 22 at Dhaka’s Adabor Police Station, includes 146 individuals, including Shakib, a former Awami League lawmaker.
BCB’s cricket operations head, Shahriar Nafees, addressed the situation, stating that the interim government has reassured no unfair harassment will occur. “The government has made it clear that Shakib will not face undue pressure,” Nafees said. He also mentioned the final decision will rest with the selectors. “As of now, I see no reason why Shakib wouldn’t play.”
Shakib is currently in Chennai with the national team, preparing for the second Test against India after a heavy defeat in the first match. His participation remains uncertain due to a finger injury and an eye issue, which impacted his performance in the first Test.
South Africa is set to arrive in Dhaka on October 16, with the first Test starting on October 21 in Mirpur, followed by the second Test in Chattogram on October 29.
