IHC orders Islamabad IGP to dismiss fake cases against PTI leaders

The Islamabad High Court has instructed the Inspector General of Islamabad Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, to dismiss false cases filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in order to address concerns of harassment.

During a hearing on the harassment claims involving PTI members Shoaib Shaheen, Ali Bukhari, and Amir Mughal, IGP Rizvi appeared before the court. Chief Justice Amir Farooq stressed the importance of resolving these issues, stating, “I had previously requested that these matters be examined more thoroughly; this request pertains to police conduct related to harassment.”

In response, the IGP informed the court that he had received the order on the 24th and had since collected all relevant files for review. The petitioners’ lawyer, Umair Baloch, also pointed out that false FIRs had been lodged against his clients.

Chief Justice Farooq added, “IG, please look into this; it doesn’t reflect well. Dismiss the fake cases.” The IG assured the court that he would arrange a meeting with the petitioners, and the Chief Justice instructed that the meeting be held in the presence of their lawyer, Umair Baloch.

The court then adjourned the hearing for two weeks, underscoring the ongoing tensions regarding the treatment of PTI members by law enforcement.
