WHY DID BABAR AZAM RESIGN AS CAPTAIN?

The reasons behind national team batter Babar Azam’s decision to step down as Pakistan’s white-ball captain have been revealed.
Babar, citing a desire to focus more on his batting and spend additional time with his family, has resigned from the role. The 29-year-old had been feeling increasingly disconnected from the team and excluded from key decision-making processes, which ultimately influenced his decision to step down.
Despite strong support from white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, who wanted Babar to continue leading the One Day International (ODI) side, the star batter opted to relinquish his captaincy.
Kirsten had been advocating for a change in T20 leadership since July, but Babar’s growing sense of detachment and lack of involvement in post-World Cup consultations led to his departure.
Before making his resignation official, Babar communicated his decision to a senior PCB official.
With Babar stepping down, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed him as captain, with discussions on team selection already in progress.
Kirsten, who is focused on implementing his long-term vision for Pakistan cricket, is expected to introduce a new T20 captain as part of his strategy for the team’s future success.
