Anna Kendrick, 39, recently opened up in an interview with The Guardian about her personal experiences with coercion, her choice not to have children, and her directorial debut Woman of the Hour. Known for her roles in Pitch Perfect and Up in the Air, Kendrick’s new film dives into the unsettling true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala, who appeared on The Dating Game in 1978. Kendrick stars as Cheryl Bradshaw, the contestant who unwittingly chose Alcala as her match. Reflecting on the project, Kendrick shared it “felt very personal,” as she’s faced her own challenges in career and personal life.
Woman of the Hour tackles themes of misogyny and the dangers women face, with Kendrick rewriting a scene to capture the subtle ways women communicate discomfort. “What is happening will be very clear to most women,” she noted, emphasizing her commitment to portraying these experiences authentically.
Kendrick also opened up about her own life, mentioning she’s never felt drawn to motherhood, jokingly adding, “Why would anyone trust me with a kid?” She also spoke about the healing journey from a past abusive relationship, which influenced her performance in Alice, Darling.
Woman of the Hour is set to premiere on Netflix on October 18, 2024.
