Android 15 Launches On Pixel With Privacy Updates

Android 15 is now officially rolling out to Pixel devices, offering a substantial update that focuses on enhancing privacy, security, and usability, particularly for foldable devices and tablets. Initially released last month through the Android Open Source Project, the operating system was unavailable on major Android and Pixel devices until today, when Google announced its arrival along with a set of Pixel-specific feature updates.
One of the most notable privacy upgrades in Android 15 is the introduction of a “private space” that provides a separate, secure area for sensitive apps, such as social, dating, or banking apps. Any app placed in the private space is kept out of the recent apps list, notifications, and even settings, offering users an added layer of privacy. Accessing this area requires additional authentication, and users have the option to completely hide the existence of the private space on their device.
Android 15 also brings unique enhancements for foldables and tablets, including a new pinning feature for the taskbar, which makes it more accessible for multitasking. Users can also pair two frequently used apps side by side, with a shortcut icon for instant access—ideal for users who need multiple apps open at once on larger screens.
On the security front, Android 15 introduces Theft Detection Lock, a feature that uses AI to detect suspicious movement and automatically lock the device if it’s likely been stolen. The update also includes a Remote Lock feature, allowing users to lock their device remotely through another Android device or a designated phone number, providing an additional safeguard against unauthorized access. Theft Detection Lock will be available for most devices running Android 10 or newer, with some users already gaining access.
Alongside Android 15, Google is launching an October Pixel feature drop, which includes Night Sight for Instagram, enabling high-quality low-light photography.
Other enhancements include new controls for the Audio Magic Eraser, helping users reduce unwanted sounds in videos. In the coming weeks, Google will release an innovative feature that allows users to seamlessly transfer media between Pixel Tablets and Pixel phones by simply holding the devices near each other, streamlining device interoperability.
