Pakistan spin duo hand 152-run defeat to England, end 15-month drought

Pakistan finally ended their 15-month winless streak by defeating England by 152 runs on the fourth morning of the second Test in Multan, leveling the three-match series 1-1.

The last time Pakistan secured a Test victory was on July 27, 2023, against Sri Lanka. At home, they hadn’t won since February 2021, when they beat South Africa. In the 11 home Tests since then, Pakistan lost seven and drew four.

Sajid Khan was named Player of the Match, as Pakistan’s spinners dominated the game. England resumed their second innings at 36 for two, but the spin duo of Sajid Khan and Noman Ali bowled them out for 144 runs. Noman took eight wickets for 46 runs, while Sajid claimed two for 93.

For England, Ben Stokes top-scored with 37, followed by Brydon Carse with 27 and Ollie Pope with 22. Noman and Sajid took full advantage of the spinning conditions, with all 20 English wickets falling to spin.

The third and final Test will be held in Rawalpindi starting Thursday, where Pakistan hopes to continue their momentum.

In his post-match comments, Pakistan captain Shan Masood credited the team’s performance and praised Noman and Sajid for their match-winning contributions. He expressed optimism about the upcoming Test and emphasized learning from past criticisms.
