Google Pixel to Roll Out Major Play Store Security Updates
Google is gearing up to enhance security and privacy features in the Play Store, offering users better protection. One highly anticipated feature is Google’s network security, which aims to guard users against network tracking and interception. However, this requires advanced hardware, and even the Pixel 9 models currently don’t support it.
A crucial update will strengthen Android security by performing early fraud detection checks on devices, ensuring a higher level of protection. This will help identify and prevent malicious actors from concealing their activities.
In addition, Google is enforcing a policy change regarding photo permissions. Apps will now need to clearly show why they require access to photos or videos, a new rule that Google will begin enforcing from August.
Starting later this year, Google Play will also analyze how apps interact with sensitive permissions. If any suspicious behavior is detected, Google Play Protect will flag the app for review and may disable it if found malicious.
Google has already reduced the number of low-quality and high-risk apps in the Play Store, signaling significant improvements in security. The company is also planning to crack down on photo permission misuse even sooner than expected.
