In a heart-wrenching incident, Punjab University faced turmoil following the tragic death of a student, Rana Ammar Akhter, who was fatally shot near the university premises. A 22-year-old student of Gender Studies from Kasur, Ammar succumbed to injuries sustained from three bullet wounds despite emergency medical efforts at Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

The tragedy led to widespread unrest as a student organization staged a sit-in outside the university, protesting against the incident. The protest caused massive traffic jams on Canal Road, Barkat Market, and adjoining areas, bringing the city to a standstill.

Adding to the chaos, the student organization reportedly attacked the university’s admin block, vandalizing property including doors and flower pots. Meanwhile, Punjab University spokesperson denied the incident occurred within the campus boundaries, labeling the news spread by the organization as baseless rumors.

Sheikh Zayed Hospital confirmed that Ammar’s body was handed over to the police for further investigation, and it would be moved to the morgue for postmortem. The tense atmosphere continues to grip Punjab University, leaving students and faculty in shock and mourning over the loss of a bright young life.
