Remembering Bapsi Sidhwa: A Literary Icon Who Gave Voice to a Generation

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bapsi Sidhwa, a beloved author and literary icon, on Wednesday in Houston, Texas. She was 86 years old.  

Sidhwa’s poignant novels and stories earned her international acclaim and a place among the most celebrated authors of her time. Her works, rich in historical and cultural context, explored themes of partition, identity, and the human spirit.

Sidhwa’s collaborations with Indo-Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta further cemented her legacy. Their work together produced critically acclaimed films like ‘Earth’ (1998) and ‘Water’ (2005), which brought her stories to life on the big screen.
